Sweet Potato Recipes

What’s your favorite fall vegetable? If you’re not saying “sweet potatoes!” with an exclamation, then, well, you might want to switch over to another post. My favorite has to be the almighty and ever-so-versatile sweet potato. I love the way my kitchen smells when I roast them and I love how they’re easier to cut (without injury) than most squashes. For some sweet inspiration, here are some of our favorite recipes: Pictured above: Sweet Potato & Brussels Sprout Skillet Sweet Potato Tahini Crostini / Curried Sweet Potato Soup Sweet Potato Avocado Tacos / Sweet Potato Pomegranate Salad Sweet Potato Quinoa Quesadillas …and a bunch more in the…

Almond Breeze Brunch Workshop

I made "emoji smoothies," whole grain vegan waffles, and a tomato basil frittata for a brunch workshop in LA. Check out the recipes here!

Happy Friday! I hope you have brunch plans this weekend, because today I have a little brunch recipe inspiration to get you started… Last weekend, we flew to California to host this super fun brunch cooking class with Almond Breeze. It was a blast getting to meet & cook with a few fans of the blog (of all ages!). First we made my favorite frittata recipe with summer squash, cherry tomatoes and basil. This is a great easy recipe, especially with the abundance of late summer produce that’s in season right now. Of course we couldn’t have an almond milk party without smoothies. At the class, we made super…

Favorite Summer Sips & Sweets

I keep hearing all of this crazy-talk about summer being almost over. I suppose backpacks are on the shelves at Target, but until the first pumpkin muffin shows up on Pinterest, summer is in full swing to me. To celebrate my favorite season not being over, here are a few of my favorite cocktails and sweet treats… Ginger Peach Sangria Tart Cherry Frozen Yogurt  /  Watermelon St. Germain Cocktails Fancy S’mores / Cherry Cheesecake Parfaits … and last but not least: Chocolate Chip Cookie Skillets. (You could also bake these as normal cookies or in ramekins). What are you making this weekend?

Summer Squash Vegetable Pizza

Our vacation is coming to a close and while we’ve eaten well in Italy, we’ve eaten just a little too well. I’m feeling pretty ready to go home and get back to my many-vegetable way of eating. But before we go to salad town, I thought I’d share this pile-of-vegetable pizza recipe that I made before we left. Usually my opinion about pizza is “less is more,” but I had a fridge to clean out. The crust here is made with part white whole wheat flour, but if you can use all whole wheat or all all-purpose flour if you prefer. Or skip the…

Favorite Summer Salads

If I had to pick only one season and one category of food to blog about until the end of time, it would be this one. I’m pretty obsessed with salads all year round, but I just can’t get enough when tomatoes, peaches and zucchini are all at their best. It’s hard to go wrong with a salad by tossing peak-season summer veggies into a bowl with a simple, tasty dressing (that’s how many of these salads came to be). If you’d like some inspiration, though, here are some of my all time faves: pictured from left to right, top to bottom: Heirloom…

travel tips for Rome & Amalfi?

Later this week, we’re taking a little trip and would love to hear your travel recs… especially those that involve food (of course)! If you have favorite restaurants, markets, or gelato shops please let me know! Jack and I are heading to Rome, and the Amalfi coast so we’d love suggestions for Positano, Amalfi, Capri, and Sorrento. We’ve been to Rome (and Capri, pictured) before, so we’ll probably skip some of the main tourist attractions but would love other ideas – cool neighborhoods to check out – that sort of thing. Grazie!!

Favorite Spring Cookbooks

I don’t even know where to start on this year’s recently-released spring cookbooks – gorgeous, stunning, beautiful, endearing, witty, and drool worthy are not words that even begin to describe them. Because I didn’t know how to choose just one at a time to start writing about, here’s a list of a few of my favorites – I’m sure I’ve missed some (let me know if you have any spring favorites!). Pictured above: Seven Spoons, by Tara O’Brady Can’t wait to make: Chocolate Olive Oil Zucchini Bread and her Esquites and Yellow Tomato Gazpacho My New Roots, by Sarah Britton…

Austin Food & Wine Festival 2015

Photos from the 2015 Austin Food and Wine Festival!

One of our favorite foodie events is without a doubt the Austin Food & Wine Fest. It’s a smoky grill-tastic weekend complete with big flavors on small plates… celebrity chefs cooking alongside local chefs… and, of course, bottomless glasses of wine. One highlight for us was watching Hugh Acheson’s demo (we just love watching him on Top Chef!)… Surrounded by a pretty meaty food & wine fest, he made fava bean & leek soup and an arugula salad with mint. He charmed the audience talking about the importance of cooking at home, eating seasonally and using good ingredients. He says “life’s too short for crappy olive…
